moonkissedmusic.com – In early March 2025, the Greater Jakarta area, including Bogor and Bekasi, experienced severe flooding due to continuous heavy rainfall. The torrential rains began on Monday, leading to significant disruptions and displacement across these regions.

Bogor:

In Bogor, heavy rainfall resulted in flooding in several main roads of the city. Notably, Jalan KS Tubun near the Warung Jambu intersection was submerged under approximately 40 centimeters of water, causing traffic congestion and vehicle breakdowns. Similarly, Jalan Dadali in Tanahsareal experienced flooding up to 60 centimeters, leading to vehicles stalling and drivers seeking alternative routes.

Bekasi:

Bekasi faced more severe flooding, primarily due to the overflow of the Bekasi River, which could not contain the water flow from upstream areas in Bogor. This led to inundation in multiple residential areas. In the Pondok Gede Permai (PGP) housing complex in Jatiasih, water levels reached up to four meters, submerging houses up to their roofs and affecting approximately 10,000 households.

Other affected neighborhoods included Villa Jatirasa, Pondok Mitra Lestari, and Kemang Ifi.

The flooding also impacted critical infrastructure in Bekasi. A hospital in the eastern town of Bekasi was swamped, with water entering wards and causing power outages, necessitating the evacuation of patients to other buildings.

Additionally, key facilities such as the Bekasi City Government offices, Kodim 0507 Bekasi, RSUD Chasbullah Abdulmajid, OLYMPUS88 Mega Bekasi shopping center, RS Subki on Jalan RA Kartini, Bekasi Train Station, and the Bekasi Alun-Alun were affected by the floods.

Evacuation and Response:

Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the National Police, were deployed to evacuate residents using rubber boats. In Bekasi’s housing complexes, rescuers navigated through thigh-high waters to evacuate residents trapped since early morning.

Temporary shelters were established to accommodate the displaced, with local authorities ensuring the provision of essential services. However, the extent of the flooding posed challenges to evacuation efforts, especially in areas where water levels reached up to four meters.

Government Actions:

In response to the escalating situation, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung raised the city’s alert level to the second-highest stage. He directed local governments to activate water pumps to extract water from flooded areas and conduct weather modification operations, such as cloud seeding, to mitigate further rainfall.

Historical Context:

The Greater Jakarta metropolitan area, home to over 30 million people, is prone to regular flooding. The current situation, particularly in Bekasi, is considered the worst since 2020, when floods claimed 60 lives following record-breaking rainfall.

As of March 5, 2025, heavy rains are expected to continue over the next few days, and authorities are on high alert to manage the situation and provide necessary assistance to affected residents.
